Newbury School offers an outstanding Maryland Department of Education-accredited preschool and pre-kindergarten program. We utilize the finest research-based educational curriculum tailored to each child’s learning style. Our teachers encourage every child’s natural curiosity so that learning becomes a wonderful adventure.
We focus on reading readiness utilizing phonics, word recognition, and storytelling; conceptual development in math; and building language skills with an emphasis on receptive and expressive language. Science, geography, dance, music, and art are fully integrated into the curriculum in creative ways.
"Upon returning to the workforce, I was very worried about sending my children to pre-school full-time. However, I am completely comfortable going to work knowing that my children are being cared for by the wonderful, caring and competent staff at the Newbury School. The Newbury School is an environment that encourages children to act and achieve their best. I like the focus of behavior and manners with the 'I care' rules. Ben made friends with the nicest kids last year - and he still sees many of them regularly. And Elle loves her teachers, talking about them all of the time." -S.M.

Our preschool classes use the Saxon Publishers Early Childhood curriculum as well as the McGraw-Hill math curricula, and all teachers at this level have four-year degrees.
Teachers offer individual attention yet encourage independent problem-solving. Our hands-on program encourages exploration, self-help, and relationship-building. Our young students also benefit from the "I Care" program, which provides them with skill sets in character building and tolerance, encouraging kind and caring social interactions.
Even at this age, repetition of stories and words remains the cornerstone of literacy development. Daily math instruction is provided in a fun and engaging manner to help them learn to classify, match, sort, construct, count and measure. Our program offers a sensory-rich environment to bring out the scientist in your child. Children also have an opportunity to demonstrate their abundant creativity through dramatic play, music and art. Work is collected and preserved in a portfolio, enabling children to proudly display and talk about their achievements with you.
