| "We encourage all children to express themselves creatively, through music, art and language activities that foster self-esteem and self-expression." |
| |
|

For our toddlers and twos, play is the path to understanding. Interacting with the world around them, experiencing social relationships, learning to express and control emotions, and developing symbolic capabilities – these are just a few of the important lessons of play.
Toddlers at play are using their senses and bodies to learn how they impact the world around them. By digging in sand, pouring water, turning a page or pounding on a drum, children’s brain development is as active as their bodies.
As children enter our toddler programs, they transition into a more organized yet flexible routine. They experience enough structure to feel secure, yet they have plenty of freedom to pursue their interests. Each day, we present a range of opportunities for organized, self-directed play as well as teacher-directed activities.
Children are encouraged to diversify and try new things, with teachers using blend of free play, interactive games, and patterning activities to develop early language and mathematical skills.
For two-year olds, our curriculum emphasizes language development, personal expression and social skills. Stories, word games, and picture books provide critical repetition and enrichment. By reading, singing and talking to your child, we make language development an integral part of each day. All concepts and skills are presented in a way that fosters a true enjoyment of learning.

"We love the Newbury School because our 2 year old daughter is always happy to go to 'school' and she's learned so much from her wonderful teachers. We've seen a huge change since she started at Newbury School in August." -S.R.

Math concepts are introduced through sorting, grouping and counting at engaging activity stations. And we encourage all children to express themselves creatively, through music, art and language activities that foster self-esteem and self-expression.

- a balance of directed activities and free play
- materials and activities that contribute to cognitive development
- monthly themes that keep learning fresh and interesting
- opportunities for dramatic play, creative arts, language development and sensory exploration
- an environment that is stimulating and safe
- teachers that respect each child’s unique way of learning and who continually communicate and collaborate with families
It is also at this age that we begin to teach children how to live in a community of their peers and the importance of being kind and caring members of that community.

"My son began Newbury three days before his 2nd birthday. He was saying a few words, but wow what a difference a year makes. Newbury has very skilled instructors who assisted in his growth (academically and socially). He loves his teachers. The teachers and staff are very patient and nurturing. My husband and I feel we made a good choice in selecting Newbury for our son's first school experience." -J.K. |
